Manuscript Critique

Please email craft@loft.org before signing up to describe your manuscript, your goals, and your timeline.

Open to: Short and Long Prose, Memoir, Nonfiction, Fiction, Essays, Short Stories, Academic Writing, Poetry

Word Limit: Please check on projects more than 50,000 words for timeline and availability.

What You’ll Submit: A Full or Partial Manuscript. You are encouraged to send a short description/vision for your project and your revision goals.

What You’ll Get: A line-edited manuscript, along with an editorial letter. Line edits will focus on grammar, spelling, sentence structure and style, punctuation, flow, and word choice. The editorial letter will outline strengths and areas for improvement, address areas related to theme, content, and formatting, offer specific suggestions for revision strategies, and recommend next steps. This critique also includes a one-hour meeting in person or over the phone to discuss the project, revisions, goals, etc.

Pricing: $50 (base price) + .065 per word

Turnaround: Turnaround is 1-2 weeks depending on length.


Writing Coach

For 1-hour creative writing consultations, we’ll explore the fundamentals of creative writing in the form of your choice through craft elements, mini-lectures, writing exercises, and discussion, with time for Q&A. For 1-hour business/academic writing consultations, we’ll focus on any of the following: strategies for organizing ideas, revision, basic mechanics of grammar and punctuation, audience, editing tools and tips, or memo writing, with time for Q&A.
